I've been an artist my whole life so I'm inspired by many, many artists, but I was inspired to make a doll by Marina Bychkova of Enchanted Dolls.

hi, im doing my first doll and the material I use for that is polymer fimo and I don’t know how to create the union in the neck ,Im really lost and I need help >.< I only have done the head, I’m going to upload a picture. what material you use?thanks

Hello! One important thing about getting the head to “stick” to the body is the head must be hollow. Here’s an example of a doll partially put together:

The torso is hollow and there’s a hole in the top of the neck for the elastic to go through. Then there’s a matching hole in the bottom of the head. Another important part is your doll’s head must be in at least two parts. It needs a sort of “lid.” Hmmm…I don’t think I’m the best at explaining this………

I HIGHLY recommend checking out the forum on this site:

Ball-Jointed Doll Artist, Allison Mecleary is making a wonderful and extremely detailed tutorial of making a porcelain BJD. You could very easily follow the first several steps and make a resin doll instead though!

There’s also a section in the Enchanted Dolls forum about doll making and the members there are very knowledgable and super sweet. If I were you I’d consider making a thread there and posing questions to them! They are excellent at explaining things unlike me!

Oh and I’m currently working with a polymer clay called Sculpey!

Good luck! <3

Here she is as of early this morning (around 1am or something….I couldn’t sleep :/ ). Once I got the legs a little more fleshed out I couldn’t help but string them up too. It’s so exciting to see bits of clay turning into a little person!
I’m getting closer and closer…I’m starting to really get to the hard bits, not that any of this has been exactly easy so far…I think my progress is going to slow quite a bit now that I’m getting to the details. Making an armature is one thing, but trying to get an arm to look like an arm and a leg to look like a leg is fecking difficult. Excited is not the right word for how I feel about trying to make her face look like Marion Cotillard. Scared is the right word, haha. I figure it’s good to have a difficult goal. If I can’t meet it I’ll still have something lovely because let’s face it, anything even remotely resembling Marion would have to be beautiful!
I’m no where near done but I couldn’t help but string her up! :D I can’t wait until she actually looks like Marion!
Made some progress these last few days :)
My hands feet and torso are all done and I finished making the armatures for the arms and legs! Next step is to refine the arms and legs. I can’t wait to string her up to see how she looks!
Hey guys! I figured I should maybe introduce myself for new followers!
Anyway…hi! My name is Danae and I’m trying to make my very own porcelain ball jointed doll. Wish me luck! <3
I’m holding a porcelain BJD called Natalia by Patricia Rose.
